Victorian Mahogany Linen Press
This Linen Press had clearly been through the mill. It arrived scuffed, scratched and covered in stickers. In addition, it was standing on the drawer base…. because the plinth was completely missing. This made the whole thing sit uncomfortably on the floor – it wasn’t just unstable and top heavy, but visually it looked clumsy and incomplete.
In the workshop
The whole thing had to be cleaned down and completely stripped. All the missing veneer could then be carefully cut in. A new, matching plinth was made and fitted, so that it hit the floor correctly and to make it a stable piece of furniture – and of course the original design was restored.
The final process was to re-polish the whole piece, so that all the repairs could not be seen and the brand new plinth matched in with the older, original wood. The scuffs and scratches were smoothed over, leaving the mahogany to do its thing – look stunning!
