Not every piece of furniture that comes into the workshop is about restoration and repair, or about bringing something back to its former glory! The owner of this little mahogany desk wanted to change its colour; requesting that I match it to other items of furniture he already owned.

In the workshop
After checking out the other pieces of furniture that it needed to match, it was stripped right back down to bare wood. Then the french polishing process (which requires many layers of hand applied polish) was adapted to build up the colour to the required tone and strength.

With these kind of re-colouring jobs it’s important to make sure that each layer of polish retains its translucency and consistency. Just the right touch, on each layer of polish, ensures the finish has lustre, a good depth.

Ensuring the client’s choice of colour and tone are accurately matched is also, obviously important.
